Carbon Reduction Commitment

Carbon Trust Standard Logo
The commitment in the Climate Change Act to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050 puts increasing pressure on government departments to increase sustainability across all areas of operation, in line with the SOGE targets. For local authorities, the requirements of national indicators 185 and 186 place additional focus on energy consumption, both within local government offices and the communities they serve. And many public sector organisations will be impacted by the cost of carbon credits for the Carbon Reduction Commitment from April 2010.

Although datacentres receive most of the headlines, every part of the IT infrastructure offers opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and other environmental impacts. The Carbon Trust calculates that office equipment accounts for around 15% of all the electrical energy used in UK offices. Kyocera Mita is committed to helping private and public sector organisations reduce the environmental impact of their printing and copying activity, both through sustainable product design and by education. Kyocera’s Green Card Network was established in 2001 to provide a forum for sharing knowledge and best practice on sustainable office practice. Kyocera has been working with Reading Borough Council to promote awareness of sustainability among both businesses and the local community since 2007 and collaborated on development of the Reading Climate Change Partnership. In 2008, Kyocera became the first company in its market sector to gain the Carbon Trust Standard for reducing the energy consumption at its UK headquarters.

Total Cost of Ownership

Total cost of ownership

TCO stands for Total Cost of Ownership. It describes the total amount your organisation will pay over the life of a printer to cover items such as toner, maintenance kits and servicing as well as purchase price.

The long-life, low-waste design of Kyocera printers means their running costs are unbeatable because you only replace the toner cassette when the toner runs out. As an added bonus, the long-life, low-waste design improves your organisation’s ecological performance and promotes sustainable business practices. Both you and the environment benefit.

Our cost calculators allow you to see just how much you could save.

See What a Difference TCO Can Make

The table below compares a Kyocera machine against one of its equivalents in the market, to highlight the difference TCO can make to your overall costs. In this example over the lifetime of the printer the difference in cost of ownership is huge, the Kyocera is almost half the cost of the equivalent other brand.

But it's not just TCO that should be taken into account. Efficiently managing how you use your printers can increase your savings even further.
