Kyocera's View - Sustainability Matters

ECOSYS Logo

Kyocera’s long life technology combines everything you expect from a copier, printer or multifunctional device with unique benefits - saving time, money and the environment.

Our  approach to sustainability is based on a waste reduction strategy. At the heart of this is our ECOSYS printer technology, which uses unique long-life drums and developers which are designed (and indeed guaranteed) to last for between 100,000 and 500,000 pages, depending on printer model.

Can One Machine Be More Sustainable Than Another?

The pictures speak for themselves . . .
Kyocera Cassette
Kyocera Cassette
Containing just 5 components made from only 2 types of recyclable plastic

When the toner runs out on a Kyocera printer, all the user replaces is a simple toner cassette made from just 5 parts and 2 types of recyclable plastic.

The toner cassettes used by Kyocera machines are recycled in the UK. They are cleaned, granulated and turned into a variety of new plastic products.
Conventional Toner Cartridge
Conventional Toner Cartridge
Containing over 60 parts made from various materials

When the toner runs out on almost all other printers, the user replaces a complex printer cartridge containing over 60 parts made from numerous materials.

These cartridges have to be shipped to a suitable processing facility (frequently outside the UK) and disassembled; the components have to be assessed for re-use, the new cartridge is then reassembled and shipped back!

How Do They Stack Up?

The pictures below show the amount of consumables needed from various manufacturers (including Kyocera) to produce 300,000 printed pages in a test conducted by German magazine Druckerchannel.

Re-Think Print

Kyocera Printers and multifunction devices

The Rethinking Printing research, conducted by Loudhouse Research on behalf of Kyocera, examines UK workplace printing attitudes and behaviours in 2011. Following on from previous research conducted in 2007, 2008 and 2010, it provides a view of the impact of the recent economic downturn and ongoing recovery on printing behaviour, how environmental attitudes have evolved and in what ways businesses are choosing to respond.
